The accident took place around 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, at 664 N. Liberty Drive, Tomkins Cove, when the man fell from a ladder, said Lt. Daniel Hylas.
When officers and paramedics arrived on scene they found a 53-year-old male with severe abdominal injuries and was in a semi-conscious state, Hylas said.
The victim had been cutting trees at a friend’s house and had fallen after a large section of the tree he was cutting knocked into the ladder and threw him 10 to 20 feet to the ground, police said.
The Stony Point Fire Department was dispatched to set up a landing zone for the Stat-Flight medical helicopter.
The injured man was transported to the landing zone by Stony Point Ambulance and was flown to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition. He is expected to survive.
Detectives from Stony Point and Rockland BCI assisted and are investigating the incident which appears to be accidental. Stony Point Ambulance and Rockland Paramedics also assisted at the scene.
Police are not releasing the man's identity.
